Behind the Wheel
The Importance of Values
Organization values have a direct impact on the success of recruitment and more importantly, retention. For example, if an organization represents itself with the following values:
- technical competency
- customer-focused
- employee commitment
- providing long-term, stable employment
- providing satisfying work
then it must provide the environment and programs to support these statements.
By keeping up to date on economic and demographic changes you are better able to make planning decisions that will be of benefit to your organization.
Although most people would say there is little need for discussion of these values and their importance is self-evident, the profile of the motor carrier passenger industry in Canada does not indicate they are applied on a standard and consistent basis.3 It is because of this reality this discussion needs to take place and be incorporated in the planning process.
